RESULTS OF PLANNING COMMISSION SERVICE
Key Planning Commission Accomplishments
Though the Planning Commission holds no final legislative authority, I refused to let that limit my impact. Working alongside dedicated commissioners, I helped craft and recommend changes that the City Council adopted, driven by a shared vision, tireless work ethic, and a deep commitment to serving our citizens.

Lot Size Enhancements
As a co-author of the new residential zone codes, I helped increase minimum lot frontages from just 40 ft to 58 ft and expand side yard setbacks from 5 ft to 8 ft and 10 ft. These adjustments give homeowners more room for parking trailers, boats, or extra vehicles and provide better access to backyards.
Garage Size Standards
Believing that two-car garages should truly fit two cars, we wrote requirements for all new residential construction, including townhomes and condominiums, to include at least 22 ft by 22 ft of garage floor space. This standard helps keep streets clear of parked vehicles in new neighborhoods. Although state law later restricted garage-size regulation for single-family homes, our standard remains in force for multi-family units.
Commercial Zoning Improvements
We overhauled the commercial zoning code, establishing three distinct business park zones and tightening standards to keep environmentally unsafe industries out of both industrial and other non-residential areas. These updates attract responsible businesses and protect community health.
Master Development Agreement Code
Until recently, developers dictated the terms of master development agreements. I co-authored the city’s first master development agreement code, limiting vested rights to six years and ensuring that the city, not the developer, drafts the agreement’s terms. This new code creates fairer and more balanced development partnerships.
Gravel Pit Opposition
I led efforts to block a proposed gravel pit and mining operation on the city’s south end adjacent to BLM land. By presenting data, mobilizing citizens, and collaborating with staff, we prevented potential environmental and quality of life impacts.
Wildlife Corridor Creation
Working with citizens, conservation groups, staff, and state officials, I championed and encouraged the Eagle Mountain Wildlife Corridor. Today this corridor safeguards critical habitat and preserves our city’s natural heritage for future generations.
